An inmate serving a sentence for murder broke out of the county jail in Duchesne Sunday afternoon and rode away on a motorcycle he had been repairing for the sheriff's posse, authorities said.

Kendall Northern, 26, described as 6 feet 4 inches tall and 220 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes, apparently picked a lock on a gate and sped away on a Yamaha 650."When he picked the lock to the gate, he just took the motorcycle with him," said Deputy Paul Adams.

Adams said Northern had been transferred to Duchesne County Jail from the Utah State Prison in March.

He said Northern had appeared recently before the Utah Board of Pardons and had not received a parole date. Northern was convicted of aggravated burglary and criminal homicide following a July 28, 1980, killing.
