A West Valley police public-relations officer who is credited with saving the life of an injured motorcyclist is the city's employee of the month for October.
Officer Guy Dodge was the first officer at the scene of the accident in which a motorcyclist attempted to pass a semitrailer truck on the right, Sgt. Kelly Davis said. The motorcyclist was struck and his leg severed in the collision.Dodge applied pressure to the wound to stop the flow of blood, calmed the motorcyclist and gave important information to paramedics about the man's condition.
"Because of his quick and precise reaction to the traumatic situation, the driver of the motorcycle was transported, by Life Flight, to the hospital and his condition is excellent," Mayor Brent Anderson said in awarding Dodge a certificate during a recent City Council meeting.
