The state Occupational and Professional Licensing Division has indefinitely suspended the license of a former registered nurse who gave the wrong vaccines and excessive doses to Salt Lake City-County Health Department patients.

Harold I. Golden, a nurse employed by the health department until last May, agreed to the license suspension. Two months ago, the division accused Golden of treatment violations involving 10 patients.

The allegations included incidents in which eight youngsters were given twice the normal amount of typhoid vaccine when they were supposed to receive DPT shots. The children developed diarrhea, fevers, pain and vomiting as a result.

The division also said Golden gave a patient five times the required dosage in a tuberculin skin test and gave a 10-year-old girl a DPT vaccination not recommended for children over the age of 6.
