A Colorado woman was in serious condition Thursday at the University Hospital after undergoing the Intermountain West's second combined heart-lung transplant.

Mary L'Argent, 35, Montrose, had been waiting nearly two years for the operation. She has been hospitalized at the University Hospital since Feb. 12, 1987. Friday her wait ended when a suitable donor became available.Utah's first heart-lung transplant recipient died 141 days after receiving the dual transplant. Karen Greene, a 35-year-old Smithfield resident, was never discharged from the U. Hospital after her Jan. 25, 1987, operation.

Only 43 heart-lung transplants were performed in the United States last year. Few donors are suitable for transplantation.
