The Communist Party newspaper Pravda broke new ground in the Soviet policy of openness on Friday by publishing technical details and a photograph of one of its latest tactical strike aircraft.
The MIG29 aircraft had already come under public scrutiny at the Farnborough air show in Britain last month, when it was a major attraction, but few details have been released in the Soviet press. The article was accompanied by a photograph - taken from the British aviation journal Flight International - showing the twin-engined MIG-29 with its distinctive double-tailplane.
