Drug-sniffing dogs, used to check student lockers in the Davis School District, now will be patrolling school parking lots, district spokeswoman Bonnie Doyle says.

But, if one of the dogs indicates drugs may be in a car, Doyle says, the vehicle cannot be searched without seeking a warrant from a judge."If the dog gives a positive alert, then a search warrant will be obtained and the matter will be turned over to the local police agency," said Bob Thurgood, a Davis Board of Education member.

"It's something that might prevent the problem from coming to school," Thurgood said.
