A convicted murderer who fled the Duchesne County Jail on a sheriff's posse motorcycle may be driving a stolen pickup, officials say.
Kendall Quinn Northern, 26, may be driving a blue 1973 Chevrolet pickup with no license plate that was taken from a Price muffler repair shop sometime last Monday, said Corrections Investigator Craig Rasmussen.A man about Northern's size - 6 feet 4 inches tall and 300 pounds - was reportedly seen in the area, he said.
Local law officers did not immediately link the stolen truck with Northern, and corrections officers did not learn of the theft until Wednesday, Rasmussen said.
Northern has not been positively seen since Monday night in Wellington - 10 miles southeast of Price - where he attempted to get a ride south to Green River from a man at a convenience store.
Earlier, Northern was seen Oct. 9 at a Castle Gate, Carbon County, coal mine, about 10 miles north of Price, just about an hour after escaping from the jail.
Northern was serving two consecutive 5-year-to-life terms for his part in the 1980 murder and robbery of a 33-year-old Salt Lake City taxicab driver.
Rasmussen said investigators believe Northern may be trying to get to Phoenix, where his father lives.
