The president of the Utah State University Alumni Association says efforts to get alumni to sign their Utah tax rebate checks over to the school have been paying off.
Kathy Van Skyhawk said Saturday organizers of the "What the heck, here's my check," campaign, have received more than $16,000 through the campaign so far. She said the goal was $30,000.She said letters were sent to all alumni living in Utah just before the first rebate checks were mailed out. Donors can specify where their money is used, she said.
Sid Smith, USU director of development, said his office has received many favorable comments about the program.
"We think it's great that so many people have been willing to donate their rebates to programs at USU," he said.
Smith said there have been few negative comments about the campaign.
