More than 3,000 people will be in Salt Lake City in one year to attend the National Tour Association's 1989 convention, Utah Travel Council officials say.

The association is the largest organization of group tour operators, hotels, motels and resorts in North America. The Utah convention is scheduled for Oct. 29-Nov. 4, 1989."It will be one of the most important events Salt Lake and Utah have ever hosted," said council Director Jay Woolley. "Not only will delegates be spending about $3.5 million while they're here, they'll also be getting a first-hand look at the city and state."

States have experienced "dramatic increases" in group tours as a result of hosting the association's annual convention, Woolley said. Group tours are about a $110 million annual business in Utah.
