Dissident students who fled to the jungle by the thousands to escape brutal army repression have rejected a government offer of amnesty and vowed to continue preparing for guerrilla warfare against Burma's military regime.

The students, most of whom have sought refuge with militant ethnic groups also opposed to the government, believe they would be slaughtered if they returned to the cities and turned themselves in, student leaders said recently in interviews at their jungle camps."We cannot trust the government," said Koko Oo, 27, chairman of the executive committee of the All-Burma Students Democratic Front. "They are killing anyone they catch." (See Burma feature story on C1.)
