A 7-year-old boy suffered extensive head injuries shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a car while riding his skateboard to school.

William E. Nacomuy, 299 N. Center, skated into the street on a steep hill and was hit by a westbound car in front of 112 W. Third North, said Salt Lake City Police Lt. Norm Thompson.Witnesses told police the woman driving the car could not have stopped in time to avoid hitting the boy, who was taken by ambulance to Primary Children's Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition later in the morning.

Thompson said it was unlikely any citations would be issued.
