Venezuelan tuna fishermen say they will comply with a ban on the slaughter of dolphins, and U.S. officials said they may lift an embargo on Venezuelan tuna imports.

U.S. Embassy spokesperson Cenovia Casas said that the U.S. Commerce Department was studying whether to end the ban because "Venezuela has already submitted the proper legislation."Venezuela passed legislation Sept. 30 requiring Venezuela's tuna fleet to comply with international norms designed to stop the slaughter of dolphins, but the laws came a month and a half too late to meet an Aug. 15 deadline set by the U.S. government.
