A group of small businesses in downtown Farmington will open the holiday season this weekend with entertainment, horse and buggy rides, and special promotions of holiday art, handmade crafts and homemade food.

The Farmington Country Holiday open house will run Thursday through Saturday, with the six participating businesses expanding their hours to 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.Participating are Aunt Addy's Country Home, a cooperative of 30 Davis County women who make and sell handmade arts and crafts; Floral Delight; the Paint, Pot, and Paper Shop; Ranae's; the Rock Barn Gallery; and Toggs by Committee.

The participating shops are in historic, turn-of-the-century homes and buildings grouped around Main and State streets that are being restored by their owners.

Rock Barn Gallery owner Rebecca Mann said the event's purpose is to recreate the old-fashioned, small town spirit and hospitality that used to mark the celebration of holidays in Utah.
