Heavy rains and whirlwinds have struck central Vietnam in recent days, killing at least 26 people, news reports say.
The storm ruined more than 247,000 acres of fields and pulled down nearly 2,500 houses as it tore through a stretch from Thanh Hoa to Phu Khanh provinces, the official Vietnam News Agency said in a report broadcast Tuesday and seen in Bangkok Wednesday.Many roads and railway lines were damaged, the report said.
The official domestic Radio Hanoi said Tuesday that flashfloods due to swelling rivers submerged many houses and 10 people drowned in Nghe Tinh province, where the floods affected some 230,000 people.
