Fund-raising volunteers for the United Way of the Great Salt Lake Area area announced collection of $1,922,617 - 38.2 percent of the goal for this year - during a public report Friday in the Little America Hotel.
"This is an outstanding report, and I'm delighted we're this far along," said Ross E. Kendell, president and chief operating officer of Key Bank and 1988 United Way campaign chairman.Money collected in the campaign will be allocated by citizen review panels to 115 participating programs in 58 local health and human service agencies. The United Way admissions panel is reviewing applications from agencies that want to be included in the process.
The campaign is organized into divisions: Major Firms Division, chaired by John Wade, manager of United Parcel Service; Public Service Division, chaired by Maj. Gen. John Matthews, Utah National Guard; Professionals Division, chaired by Jay Smith of Ernst and Whinney; Geographic Division, under Northwest Pipeline's James Herbster; and Loaned Executives.
