Conspiracy and possessing $10,400 in counterfeit $20 bills are charged in a federal grand jury indictment returned Thursday against Timothy Cockrell and Jeffrey Lundquist.
U.S. Attorney Brent D. Ward said if they are convicted on all charges, they could be imprisoned up to 15 years and fined $250,000 apiece.The indictment says that on Oct. 12, Cockrell and Lundquist were traveling near Richfield. They told an officer that counterfeit notes were the pair's private possessions and represented their life savings, it says.
Federal grand jurors also recently charged:
-Jose Brito, accused of filing a false statement with federal officers by saying he had no prior criminal arrest or conviction other than a 1986 charge of "walking under the influence" in Bountiful. The indictment says he made the statement in a form submitted to the American Embassy in Mexico City.
-Raymond Richard Duran, Leonard Duran, Eloy C. Duran and Lonnie Curtis, accused of drug crimes. All but Curtis are charged with distributing cocaine in September. All except Eloy C. Duran are charged with possessing cocaine in October with the intent of distributing it, and all four are accused of conspiring to distribute cocaine and marijuana.
-Gabriel Maldonado-Maldonado, charged with re-entry to the United States by a deported alien. The indictment says that on Feb. 6 he was deported but that he was back in Utah on Aug. 22.
