The Utah Department of Transportation has a not-so-friendly reminder for all political candidates: Political signs and highways don't mix. It is illegal to place signs in the right-of-way of state highways.

Nor can they be placed on utility poles, fences, trees or street signs within the right-of-way. UDOT policy is to remove and destroy illegally placed signs "without bias to candidates or opinions," according to a press release."Not only is it illegal and an eyesore, but it can be a safety hazard as well," said Don Jasperson of UDOT. "Illegally placed signs can cut down visibility and obstruct important regulatory signs, like stop signs."
