The United Way of the Great Salt Lake Area announced it had reached 38.2 percent of its $5,031,195 goal and honored several people for the success of their company campaigns during a public report meeting and luncheon at Little America Friday.
Campaign Chairman Ross E. Kendell, president and chief operating officer of Key Bank, praised the more than 250 volunteers for their efforts.Reports from individual sections were included in a multimedia presentation that featured photos of dozens of volunteers from individual companies and from campaign divisions. The presentation, "The Magic Is You," emphasized that a successful fund-raising campaign depends on hard-working volunteers.
Two companies received special recognition: IBM for training the 22 executives loaned to United Way by their companies and KUTV for preparation of a 10-minute video for use in presentations. (KUTV's community affairs manager, Kimberly Leslie, wrote and directed the film). Individuals honored were: Sharon Ott, Questar Corp., Laura Headden, First Security Bank, Tom Williams, United Parcel Service, Ed England, Northwest Pipeline Corp., Sue Larsen, American Savings and Loan, Terri Birkinshaw and Kay Lewis, Longyear, Diane Barmore, McKlane America, Terri Schriewer, St. Mark's Hospital and Tom Major, University of Utah.
"The momentum of this campaign has been very exciting," Kendell said. "Everyone jumped in and ran with his or her assignment. It's a pleasure to work with people who are both highly enthusiastic and highly responsible in seeing an assignment through."
Workers were challenged to complete the campaign by Thanksgiving.
