Fred Rompelberg of Holland failed in his bid Saturday to claim the world land speed record for bicycles because his lead car was unable to keep a straight line on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
"Nothing bad happened today, but nothing good happened either," said team spokesman Terry Nish. "We had the same problem with the car getting squirrelly."Rompelberg, 42, is after the world land speed record for bicycles of 152.284 mph, set by Californian John Howard on July 20, 1985, at the salt flats.
