It's been a safe and basically sane deer hunt thus far, say police dispatchers from around the state.
As of Sunday night, there had been no hunt-related deaths or major injuries, although a West Jordan woman was found dead in her sleeping bag early Saturday morning in San Juan County. A sheriff's spokesman said Tanya Wickham, 26, was found unconscious about 7:30 a.m., and efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. Wickham apparently died of a seizure. Her body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.Cache County officials reported a minor vehicle accident Sunday morning, and Duchesne County deputy sheriffs said a couple of parked cars were damaged by stray bullets.
On Saturday, a trailer in Millard County exploded and burned, but no one was injured because the owners were out hunting. In another incident, a Moab man suffered minor injuries when the truck in which his 5-year-old grandson was riding slid about 150 feet after the parking brake failed. The child was uninjured.
Millard Sheriff Ed Phillips summed up the situation for most of the state when he said, "It's been pretty quiet so far - knock on wood."
