Police Chief Wayne Riley was at the Salt Lake County attorney's office Monday morning, reviewing a shooting that left a Draper man dead Saturday night.
Gary Peppmuller, 48, was killed by a 12-gauge shotgun blast to the stomach. Riley said the shooting occurred about 8:50 p.m. during a dispute between the victim, his ex-wife and her friend, Eldon Ellis, just outside her home, 696 W. 123rd South.Peppmuller was taken to Alta View Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Ellis, 31, no address available, was arrested almost immediately after the shooting and later booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of homicide.
Riley said two police officers, summoned on a "keep the peace" call, arrived just before the shooting occurred. Julie Peppmuller and Ellis had arrived at the house to change locks and secure a semitrailer tractor that they had driven onto the property, said Riley. Gary Peppmuller confronted the pair, and a brief argument ensued.
