The Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked Wednesday's scheduled execution in Mississippi of convicted murderer Leo Edwards. The justices, by an 8-0 vote, granted Edwards the emergency stay pending further appeals in his case. Justice Antonin Scalia did not take part in the decision. Edwards, 33, was due to be executed at 12:01 a.m. in the gas chamber at Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.
