Each Christmas a family member may ask, "Do you remember that year when. . . ."

And then the story may recall a memorable event that happened many Christmases ago or just last year, and it sparks memories in others as they tell about an interesting event of the yule season. Each year the Deseret News asks its readers to share their favorite stories in the popular newspaper series, "Christmas I Remember Best." Deadline for the stories, which must be true and not poetry or fiction, is Nov. 25.

Five of the most interesting and unusual stories will be printed in a series, with the final story published Christmas Eve. Contest officials emphasize that the story does not necessarily have to be the writer's "best" Christmas but the one "best remembered" because of unusual circumstances.

There is no limit on the number of words for the stories, but contest officials suggest entries be between 800 and 1,000 words. They should be typewritten or handwritten legibly, and those not selected for publication will be returned if submitted with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

A $60 prize will be awarded for each of the stories selected for publication.

Deadline for entries is Nov. 25 and should be mailed to "Christmas Best," Deseret News, P.O. Box 1257, Salt Lake City, UT 84110, or delivered to the newspaper office at 30 E. First South.
