Atlanta Braves Manager Russ Nixon is awaiting a new contract proposal after rejecting the club's offer of a one-year deal for 1989.
Nixon, who replaced Chuck Tanner as manager of the Braves after 39 games of the 1988 season, said Wednesday he will need more than one year to develop the young Braves into contenders. Atlanta finished last in the National League West this season. Nixon's record as manager of the Braves in 1988 was 42-79.
