An Arizona man riding in the back of a pickup truck was killed and five others were injured during the weekend when their truck went out of control and rolled, the Utah Highway Patrol said.
Patrol Sgt. Paul LeCours said Ernest Gordon Black, 27, Page, died in the 3:25 a.m. Saturday accident on U-89.The five people injured were taken to Kanab Hospital, and three were transported to Flagstaff, Ariz., by ambulance helicopter. They remained hospitalized, a nursing supervisor said.
The victim was in the back of a pickup truck with two other men - Dennison Yazzie, 15, and Francis Finnemore, 29, both of Page, Ariz. - when the westbound truck crossed the middle line, swerved into the middle and off the left side of the road, rolling 11/2 times, LeCours said.
The driver, Roy T. Fowler, 17, Page, suffered head injuries and was taken to Flagstaff, where he was in critical condition after several hours of surgery, the nursing supervisor said.
Finnemore also was taken to Flagstaff, along with Cheryl Yazzie, 17, and Rolaine Bigman, 14, both of Page. They were in stable condition.
Dennison Yazzie was treated for minor injuries at Kanab Hospital and released, a spokesman said.
