Tooele Army Depot's executive officer, Lt. Col. James E. Meador, has received the Tooele Chamber of Commerce's annual award for superior job performance and community support by someone from TAD.

In announcing the award, the chamber praised especially Meador's work as president of the Ophir Water Co., a special water project to benefit both the Army and Ophir residents. The water system will bring natural runoff water from Ophir Canyon 6.2 miles into the desert to irrigate a 250-acre farm on Army property, which is managed by the Corps of Engineers.

Meador arranged funding for the project, which, besides turning the desert into farmland, will provide watering holes for area wildlife and will support fish and birds.

Meador has also spoken to Tooele school children, actively supported the depot's community services program and instigated depot support of the Boy Scouts.
