U.S-Vietnamese teams investigating the fates of American airmen shot down on bombing missions found two sets of human remains and the possible site of other remains, officials said Wednesday.
"We found partial human remains at two different locations," said Bill Bell, leader of the six U.S. military experts. "Neither U.S. nor Vietnamese forensic experts have had access to them at this point. The Vietnamese have pledged to immediately repatriate any remains so we expect to receive them in the near future."The two teams of experts found the remains and pieces of aircraft wreckage in an eight-day search of areas in five provinces around Hanoi. In the search, which ended Tuesday, the investigators interviewed villagers and inspected sites were planes crashed during the war.
