A sharp increase in errors by air traffic controllers at O'Hare International Airport has prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to limit the number of incoming flights during peak hours at the world's busiest airport, officials say.
The FAA's decision also placed a limit on hourly landings at Midway Airport, Chicago's second largest airport, although there have been no reports of major incidents involving Midway. To combat the problem, officials have decided to cut the number of arrivals at O'Hare between 4:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. to 80 flights per hour. The 80 flights would be down from a peak of 92 per hour last week.
