Kay L. Dea, professor of social work at the University of Utah, has been named dean of the Graduate School of Social Work. The action is expected to be ratified by the full Institutional Council at its October meeting.

Dea replaces Eunice O. Shatz, who accepted a position at the University of Tennessee.Dea has been associate dean and acting dean for two years. He is a past president of the American Association of Baccalaureate Program directors and has served on 15 national commissions and committees. He has also served as a consultant with 36 colleges and universities and provided expertise to numerous agencies across the nation.

The former caseworker and probation officer earned his doctorate at Columbia University.
