A trial for a felon accused of first-degree murder has been scheduled Feb. 9.

John Patrick Bruner, 21, was originally set to be tried this week but Bruner fired his court-appointed legal defender, Brooke Wells, for undisclosed reasons. In a hearing Friday, 3rd District Judge David S. Young appointed another legal defender, Lynn Brown, to represent Bruner. Young then scheduled a new trial.Bruner is accused of murdering William Heyniger, 50, Sept. 11, 1987. Heyniger was shot four times while staying at a friend's house at 1521 E. Emigration Canyon Road.
