A federal grand jury in Salt Lake City has filed two new drug indictments, plus three other charges alleging illegal entry of the country by aliens.
Curtis Alan Mayfield was charged with manufacturing about 5.5 pounds of methamphetamine on July 27, and with carrying a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime.U.S. Attorney Brent D. Ward said Mayfield could be sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined $1 million if convicted on the drug charge, and would face a minimum five years in prison for the firearms violation, if found guilty.
Rodney Lynn Jackson was charged with possessing about 860 grams of cocaine on Sept. 14 with the intention of distributing it, and with possessing marijuana after he was convicted of a previous drug offense.
The indictment says Jackson was convicted in California on July 31, 1985, of possessing marijuana for sale.
Maximum potential sentence for Jackson, if convicted, would be 10 years to life and a $4 million fine on the first count and two years in prison, plus a $250,000 fine, on the second.
Raul Espinoza-Ramirez, Arturo Espinoza-Ramirez and Alberto Dominguez-Hernandez were charged with reentry of the country by a deported alien. They face possible maximum terms of two years and fines of $250,000 each, Ward said.
