Positive identification has been made of a Layton couple killed Oct. 1 in a single engine plane crash.

Weber County Chief Deputy Sheriff Sam Vander Heide affirmed the identity of the victims as John A. Prindle, 29, and his wife, Karen Prindle, 26.The Hill Air Force Base airman was piloting the rented Cessna 152 when it crashed on a mountain side near Powder Mountain ski resort in Ogden Canyon.

Vander Heide said Friday that HAFB officials provided dental rec-ords of the couple so positive identification could be made.

The crash started a fire and 18 acres burned before Weber Fire District officials had the blaze under control.

FAA officials have tentatively blamed pilot error as the cause of the crash.

"We still haven't gotten any information back from the national office," FAA spokesman Alan Cole said Friday.
