The Army has made $55,000 in the first year of a scrap and waste recycling program at Tooele Army Depot.

The depot collects its computer and bond paper, cardboard, light and heavy metals, sells them and uses the profits for morale support activities, such as the depot gym and construction of a volleyball and horseshoe area.First Lt. Lita McLemore, recycling program manager, said that besides the waste reduction and resource conservation benefits, the program is important for the money it provides.

"The commander had a big interest in trying to make up for budget cuts in morale support activities," McLemore said. "We project, as a conservative estimate, that we will make $200,000 in fiscal year 1989."
