The Salt Lake City Arts Council has awarded 33 general grants for 1989 to local not-for-profit community organizations that provide performing, literary and visual arts events. These grants make possible free performances or participatory opportunities for special populations such as the handicapped or senior citizens.
Recipients are: Babcock Reading Arts Society, $120; Ballet Folklorico, $600; Ballet West, $7,200; Children's Dance Theatre, $1,500; Children's Photographic Workshop, $2,000; Contemporary Music Consortium, $500; Eastern Arts, $880; Golden Section, Inc., $1,500; Kismet Dance Company, $1,110; Lallapalooza, $1,100; New Shakespeare Players, $1,200; and Nova Chamber Music Series, $750.Also Oratorio Society of Utah, $700; Pioneer Theatre Company, $7,200; Pro Musica of Utah, $1,000; Repertory Dance Theatre, $4,800; Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, $4,800; Salt Lake Acting Company, $3,600; Salt Lake Art Center, $5,000; Salt Lake Chamber Winds, $1,000; Salt Lake Opera Theatre, $1,275; Salt Lake Symphony, $600; Salt Lake Vocal Ensemble, $800; Strings 'N Things, $600.
The Utah Arts Festival will receive $7,200; Utah District Metropolitan Opera Auditions, $900; Utah Media Arts Center, $500; Utah Museum of Fine Arts, $1,750; Utah Opera, $3,600; Utah Symphony, $7,200; Very Special Arts Utah, $1,400; Walk-Ons, Inc. $1,000; and Zivio Ethnic Arts Ensemble, $1,000.
