Democrats have labeled as a "political sham" Gov. Norm Bangerter's plan to bond for $40 million for a West Valley Freeway.

Democrat Jim Davis, the candidate for lieutenant governor, questioned why Bangerter suddenly feels the need to list the freeway as the state's top transportation priority."What astounds us is that Norm Bangerter has been in office nearly four years and waits until eight days before the election to announce his support (for the freeway)."

Davis said Bangerter's plans to bond for the freeway sound similar to Wilson's highly publicized bonding plans. Democratic officials played a Bangerter radio ad that is critical of Wilson's bonding plans.
