The Utah Transportation Commission will consider approving $580,000 in additional funding for a St. George construction project during the panel's monthly meeting Friday.
The federal money for St. George is needed to complete improvements on Sunset Boulevard, spokeswoman Shirley Iverson said Monday. The state agency must approve allocation of federal aid to urban highway projects. The city already has received about $1.8 million in federal money and $400,000 in state funds to widen the highway from two lanes to four lanes and to redesign the intersection with Bluff Street, Iverson said.
St. George has completed work on the west half of Sunset Boulevard and is now working on the eastern end, she said. But, because of delays, the project will cost more than original estimates.
The commission also will consider adding $125,000 to a Cache County project, for construction of the Benson Marina Bridge, said Iverson.
In addition to the funding issues, she said, the panel will receive updates on several construction proj-ects, including the so-called A-Line Highway project around the Jordanelle Dam in Wasatch County and the southeast quadrant of I-215 in Salt Lake County.
