Thirteen people were killed in the Ural mountains when an avalanche hit a camp they set up at the foot of Mount Medvezhya, the Soviet news agency Tass said on Thursday.

The victims, mostly young people, were buried alive on Monday night after being forced to seek shelter from a snowstorm, Tass said. There were no foreigners among them.
