Latah County deputy sheriffs are taking their work home with them - in the form of their patrol cars.
Sheriff Ken Buxton has initiated a new "resident deputy" program, asking some deputies to drive their patrol cars home if they live in rural communities. The officers can then be sent directly to accidents or crime scenes, allowing for a quicker response time. The deputies will cooperate with and assist town marshals.
"This has already met with some positive feedback, with us just working them into the existing (law enforcement) structure," said Buxton.

If the deputies are on call, they may drive the cars to a grocery store or on personal errands in case a call for help comes in, Buxton said.
