Atlanta nurse Phyllis Parker inspects the Jarvik-7 artificial heart removed from a Florida man while surgeons transplant a donor heart Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital. Clarence Leslie, 43, Orlando, had been kept alive since Oct. 20 with the Jarvik-7, which acted as a bridge until a human donor heart could be found and flown to Atlanta. The heart was transplanted into Leslie during a nine-hour operation that doctors termed a success. Leslie remains in critical condition.
