A 5-year-old boy whose arms were torn off by a spinning shaft underneath a truck as he played beneath it was in critical condition Friday two days after surgeons reattached one of the arms.
Jamie Komanekin was injured Wednesday when he crawled under the truck as it was making a delivery to his home in Keshena on the Menominee Indian Reservation in northeastern Wisconsin, authorities said. The child was taken to Shawano Community Hospital, where he was stabilized and then was flown by Flight for Life helicopter to Milwaukee. He was hospitalized in critical condition Friday in intensive care at the Milwaukee County Medical Complex in suburban Wauwatosa. Both arms were torn off at the upper arm.
"They could not reattach the left arm. They have reattached the right arm, which is surviving at present," said Pamela Hansen, medical complex spokeswoman.
