Food is fine, but the Governor's Black Advisory Council is betting that potential donors to a scholarship fund would rather treat their ears than their stomachs.

To that end, the council has voted to hold a battle of the gospel choirs to embellish the scholarship fund they sponsor and forgo the usual banquet held each spring. Council members will ask church congregations throughout Utah to participate and hope a series of challenges will result in both a good time and generous donations.The board hopes to raise the visibility of the scholarship fund in the community. The council annually offers several $500 college scholarships to outstanding high school students.
