A powerful earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale rolled through a mountain range in western China on Saturday , the New China News Agency said.

It said the quake struck the snow-covered Tanggula range, which is about 19,700 feet above sea level, in Qinghai province at 10:14 a.m. (9:14 p.m. EST Friday) but gave no further details.
