"Who Framed Roger Rabbit," the biggest domestic box-office hit of the summer season, has raced off to a fast start at the foreign box office.

According to Disney Studios, the combination live action-animated cartoon comedy grossed $3.8 million on 280 screens in France, accounting for 41 percent of that country's total box office during its opening week. It surpassed such previous opening-week hits as "Back to the Future" and "Beverly Hills Cop."The film set house records in Switzerland, where it earned $226,175 in only 11 theaters. The studio reported equally impressive attendance figures in Belgium.
