A Sandy man was injured when a 13-year-old neighbor accidently shot him while showing his brother's shotgun to two friends.

Larry Burkinshaw, 53, 770 E. Pinewood, Sandy, was treated for pellet wounds to his left arm, chest, hip and leg after being shot while he was walking down the street near his house about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a Sandy police report. The man told police he saw several teenagers handling a gun while on the porch of a house across the street, then he doubled over after feeling a pain in his left side.The 13-year-old boy, who was cited by police for discharging a firearm, told officers he took his 11-year-old brother's gun out of the house to show it to several friends. He had not checked the shotgun to see whether it was loaded, and the gun fired when he lost his balance.

The boy's father drove the injured man to the hospital, according to the report.
