An elderly woman was seriously injured Monday morning when she was hit in a downtown crosswalk.

Mildred Porter, 81, address unavailable, was walking with her husband south on the east side of the Second South and Main intersection about 9:25 a.m. when she was struck by an eastbound car driven by David Reid, 27, Midvale, said police Lt. Tom Brown.Reid had just started up after the east-west traffic light had turned green. "He apparently didn't see that she was still in the crosswalk."

A witness, who didn't want to be identified, said the victim's husband ran to avoid being hit.
