Two West Valley men and a Salt Lake man remained hospitalized after a three-vehicle collision in West Valley City that injured six people Saturday night.

Russell Cox, 18, was listed in critical condition Monday morning. Brian Johnson, 18, was in satisfactory condition. Both men live at 4451 Deal Circle, No. D, and were at LDS Hospital.Darren Thayer, 18, 2222 S. Second East, No. 4, was in stable condition at Cottonwood Hospital Monday.

Three other people were treated at and released from Cottonwood and St. Marks Hospitals after the 8:30 p.m. accident.

Cox and Johnson were trapped in their crushed subcompact car for 45 minutes after the crash while rescuers worked to free them.

West Valley police officer Fred Mattfeld said the two men's Honda Civic was traveling west on 41st South at 1750 West when the Thayer car, traveling east, apparently crossed the center line "for an unknown reason" and hit the subcompact head-on.
