University of Texas-El Paso football coach Bob Stull has been given a Monday morning ultimatum to decide whether to accept the vacant job at the University of Missouri, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said.
The Post-Dispatch also reported in its Monday editions that sources said Oregon coach Rich Brooks had interviewed with Missouri on Saturday, possibly as a contingency candidate, and that Stull had an interview with Stanford on Sunday.According to the paper, Stull and Brooks are the only known candidates to appear before Missouri's Intercollegiate Athletic Committee.
"I'm not going to comment on anything, pure and simple," Brooks said Sunday. "I'm not in the mood to do any talking."
The Stanford sports information office confirmed Sunday that Stull was on campus for a preliminary interview Sunday and that he was the first candidate interviewed. No deadline has been set to name Stanford's coach, but the search committee does not expect to select one until after Christmas, according to Stanford sports information officials.
Stull is preparing Texas-El Paso for an appearance in the Independence Bowl Dec. 23 against Southern Mississippi.
Attempts to reach Stull by telephone were unsuccessful.
The Missouri job search enters its fourth week Monday. Woody Widenhofer resigned under pressure last month after four seasons.
Brooks has a record of 52-77-4 in 12 seasons at Oregon. The Ducks jumped to a 6-1 start this season, including victories over Stanford, Washington and Aloha Bowl-bound Washington State. But they lost their last five games of the season, finishing 6-6.
