A hockey player with the Denver Rangers was in fair condition at LDS hospital Monday following his injury in a fight during the final seconds of the game Golden Eagles game Saturday night.

Mark Janssens suffered a head injury in the final 13 seconds of the game during a fight with Eagle Martin Simard. Janssens apparently hit his head on the ice after being knocked over backward during the fight.Janssens has a blood clot on his brain but is responding to commands, according to LDS Hospital spokesman Tim Madden. Doctors do not plan surgery to remove the clot at this time, Madden said.

The fight broke out between Janssens and Simard as the two teams lined up for the final faceoff in the game.

KSL television reported Sunday that shortly after the injury a group of Denver players attacked a KSL photographer who had been filming the fight.
