Lucile Hyer, an adaptive physical education specialist with the Granite School District, has been cited by the Utah Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance for her outstanding service to the community.

Hyer, who currently works with mentally, physically and emotionally handicapped students in self-contained classroom settings, has coached special olympic teams from Cottonwood, Granite and Kearns high schools and Westlake Junior High.Some of the special olympians she has has coached have won ribbons and trophies and some have advanced to compete at national and international levels.

"The human worth we seek to develop in education rests upon our commitment to quality teaching," Hyer said. "I believe good physical education and health programs significantly contributed to worthwhile lives by providing opportunities to build the physical, mental and social needs of our students."

In her spare time, she enjoys going to the symphony, opera and ballet, working in her flower garden and traveling.
