George D. Melling has been appointed president of the law firm of Fabian and Clendenin, replacing Al Colton, who died recently.

Melling joined Fabian and Clendenin 22 years ago after his graduation from the University of Michigan in 1966. He specializes in real property law and is general counsel for Intermountain Power Service Corp., Travelers Insurance and the Freeport Center.From 1977-80 he was a member of the Salt Lake County Planning Commission and served as chairman from 1978-79.

He coached Highland High School's hockey team from 1982-85 and won the state championships in 1984 and 1985.
